Biography of
Sasu Tarkoma
Sasu Tarkoma is a Professor of Computer Science and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Helsinki. He is also chairman of the Finnish Scientific Advisory Board for Defence (MATINE) and is affiliated with the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT) and the Finnish Center for AI (FCAI). He previously directed the Helsinki Center for Data Science. Tarkoma’s research spans Internet and distributed systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and mobile systems. He has published over 200 scientific articles, accruing over 8,000 citations (Google Scholar), and authored or co-authored four books with publishers including Wiley, CRC Press, and Cambridge University Press. He holds 11 US patents, has over 20 international patent applications pending, and has supervised over 120 M.Sc. theses and 12 Ph.D. theses. His work has received multiple Best Paper awards and recognitions from organizations such as IEEE PerCom, ACM CCR, and ACM OSR.
