The latest 6G magazine informs and inspires
University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship research program has published a new issue of its 6G Waves magazine. The sturdy reading package introduces future visions, research and experiments with breakthrough potential, innovators, collaborations, and upcoming events.
Researchers’ 6G vision is firmly rooted in how future technology can support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 with trailblazing research and collaborations with a wide array of stakeholders.
“Digitalization of societies must be extended to wealthy and developing countries, and in metropoles and rural areas. Sufficient and affordable connectivity may offer ways out from poverty or inequality. We engineers must carry our responsibility and take these aspects into account as we define and design future solutions,” says Matti Latva-aho, Director of Academy Professor 6G Flagship, in his foreword.
Year 2021 turns out to kick-start major global 6G research initiatives. Impressive research programmes have been launched with ambitious technical targets as well as national or regional goals in current global competition in the field.
Finland has global leadership in 6G research, and all the key players in the field are influential in our country. A lot is going on in the world, but the gaze is significantly on us as well. We were the first in 6G. The total budget of the 6G Flagship research package awarded by the Academy of Finland to the University of Oulu in 2018 for eight years is EUR 251 million.
This year, we are celebrating 6G Summit’s third anniversary together with EuCNC’s 30th. We are co-organizing three major events during the next six months: 6G Symposium in May, Joint EuCNC & 6G Summit in June and IEEE PIMRC in September. Due to continuing global restrictions, all will be virtual events. The positive side of the story is that remote participation is easy, affordable and environmentally friendly.
6G Waves is a bi-annual magazine that highlights the current state and continuation of 6G research, introduces the most interesting research topics, and, of course, the number of people behind 6G Flagship research program. Previous issues of the magazine have been downloaded more than a hundred thousand times each. Grasp our digitalized future now and download the latest 6G Waves magazine for free here.
