6G Optical Communication
Light Based Location Awareness
Absolute security and trustworthy identification of objects are two key targets for 6G. This demonstration shows how visible light can be used for isolated wireless communications.
With visible light we can localize a person and based on the position of that person and who that person is, we can provide specific services. The demo set-up includes two rooms where a wearable gives you relevant information based on your location. In the kitchen, you could get information that the oven is, for example, at a certain temperature, and the fridge is at a certain level and so on. In the living room, your phone or watch would automatically connect to, for example, the speakers and you would have the option to turn on the television. You would get all these services and could control the gadgets in the living room as the first priority.
Security and trustworthy identification are further highlighted when going a health care station. With light-based location awareness, you would be recognized automatically. Using the biometrics on your handheld device, you could securely confirm your identity and arrival to receive the treatment you need.
This Light-based Location Awareness Demo is part of the 6G Demo Series showcasing 6G Flagship program’s 6G innovation.
